The deadlines for paying your tax bill are:
31 January for any tax you owe for the previous tax year (known as a ‘balancing payment’) and your first payment on account.
31 July for your second payment on account.

At your bank or building society
You can pay at your branch by cash or cheque. You’ll need the payslip on the bill HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) sent you.
Make your cheque payable to ‘HM Revenue and Customs only’ followed by your reference number – this is your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) followed by the letter ‘K’. You’ll find it on your payslip.
At the Post Office
You can pay by debit card, cash or cheque made payable to ‘Post Office Ltd’. You’ll need the payslip on the bill HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) sent you.
By post
You can send a cheque by post to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Include the payslip from the bill HMRC sent you. Make your cheque payable to ‘HM Revenue and Customs only’ followed by your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number. You’ll find this on the payslip.
